Just a Little at a Time
Just a Little at a Time is an ongoing series of works that feature miniature paper scenes made around a matchbox-sized stage. It started as a self-initiated project in 2017 where I make and photograph a new paper sculpture piece every day. The challenge was to understand the nature of paper through the act of routine while recreating ideas influenced by my memories, thoughts, and everyday life. I choose to work in small scale as it fascinates and prompts me to consider things that are often hidden in plain sight.
This has led to developing personal techniques in paper construction and finding my own artistic voice. It has since evolved into an exploratory study of the interaction of colour, and my desire to experiment with more complex objects and narrative elements in my work. This growing collection of work seeks to continue playing with familiar visuals that invite the viewer to pursue the subject of play.
Just a Little at a Time was exhibited at the Singapore Art Museum in 2022, as part of a group show titled “Superfluous Things: Paper”.
