Classic Portraits of Time

Classic Portraits of Time in Paper celebrates iconic portraits from history through contemporary paper art and Augmented Reality (AR) Filters. This project is a collaboration between myself and creative technologists, Tan Yu Yan and Aw Boon Jun from GOWAAA.

In this collaboration, Instagram users reimagine themselves as a famous artist and bring history to life through virtual paper art. The AR Filters work by detecting an image of a face and superimposing paper elements onto their face. Users will be able to transform themselves into a paper portrait with the ability to move and talk. By merging analog and digital, we invite users to explore human expression and art by engaging with classic portraits of time while expressing their creative side in a playful way.

This project also allows audiences to become a part of my work while learning more about the history of each featured artist. Each portrait is designed to pay homage to the chosen iconic artist of time and illustrated to show recurring themes and motifs that often appear in their work. The 5 famous artists are Salvador Dali, Frida Kahlo, Georgette Chen, Rene Magritte and Yayoi Kusama.
